Russian hockey
Russian hockey is a pride of all Russians. Though it did not originate in Russia, Russian national team proves that it should have been invented in Russia.
The oppositions USSR-Canada and Russia-Canada are great hockey events. Russia proved its right to be called a great hockey country. Indeed, in the world there are practically only two strong teams – Russian and Canadian, others are just amateurs.
Russian hockey players have won the World Cup several times. Even now Russia is the leading hockey team of the world. In 2009, as well as 2008, Russians outrun Canadians.
In 1954 the united hockey team of the USSR participated in the hockey world championship for the first time. Soviet hockey players easily reached the final and got ahead of Canada with the score 7:2. This was the great opening for the Russian hockey on the world arena.
At the moment Russian team (including the team of USSR) has 24 victories against 23 of Canada. The opposition is very tense, but Russian hockey is ahead!
In the history of Russian hockey there were many stars: Valeriy Kharlamov, Vladislav Tretyak, Aleksandr Maltsev, Anatoliy Ionov, Boris Mikhailov, Vyacheslav Fetisov, Nikolai Drozdetskiy, Aleksandr Ragulin, Vladimir Myshkin, German Titov, Aleksei Yashin, Daryus Kasparaitis, Ilya Kovalchuk, Aleksandr Ovechkin, and other.
